2021 is ending in a few hours and I’m still trying to put my thoughts together on how the year was. I will be as brief as possible as it wasn’t an easy year for anyone partially due to the pandemic (someone called this year 2020 pro max) but there were wins regardless.

My technical career

This looks funny having to type this as I would never have guessed I’ll be in this space two years ago. I started off fully in mid 2020 after getting into a tech fellowship. I eventually graduated and got my certificate early January.

Started off experimenting with my knowledge and working on mini projects. A big win for me was being a finalist in HNGi8 as this was my first attempt. I wrote an article about it when I was in stage 1 and it was worthwhile

I also got into learnable 21 program organized by Genesys tech hub.

In all of this, I also got gigs freelancing and built interesting side projects which have also helped me improve my skills and get some form of working experience.

My relationships

First and foremost, my relationship with God went from just there to being amazing and I’m grateful for how far I have come with my maker😀.

A popular misconception about going into tech is that you’ll always be on your laptop and never have time to socialize or meet people but I got to make great connections this year from the different tech communities I joined.

I made friends and acquaintances in school having been an introvert for the most part of it.

I also got to appreciate the importance of family as they have been a strong support for me this year(Chucks, Chile and Mum💕💕Love you guys).

My personal growth

I worked on getting rid of imposter syndrome as I always felt I was not ready or good enough but oh well, thanks to friends who pushed and encouraged me, bye imposter syndrome!.

I also became intentional about my growth as a person, learnt how to work effectively in a team, being patient, started journaling (I really need to improve on this), became intentional about using my LinkedIn 😂, gained self confidence, upped my skills as a frontend developer, mentored people, became more vocal about what I do, made new friends, etc.

I have also lost friends, gotten loads of rejection mails, gotten scammed, CGPA dropped, gotten sick more times than I can count just this year alone, lost interest in schooling at some point but it can only get better from here.

Cheers to a wonderful 2021 and to celebrating more wins in 2022.
